Dial V for Voices
July 8, 2008

Welcome to Voice Over Central, How May I Direct Your Call?
Has it ever occurred to you that nearly every phone device nowadays has a voice over associated with it somehow?
Whether it be your mobile phone, a telephone system or automated voice messages from your local movie rental shop reminding you that your DVD is late, voice over is omnipresent and plays an important role in how billions of people around the world receive messages and access information on a daily basis.
For Customer Service, Press One
How many times have you encountered an automated telephone system when making a toll-free call or dialing in to join a teleconference?
Maybe you have even ordered pizza over the phone with the assistance of a cheery IVR (Interactive Voice Response) after hearing a litany of specials for the week.
Suffice to say, whether checking a balance with a local utility or listening to an automated phone message that disrupted your dinner, I have great confidence that we’ve all experienced hearing the disembodied voice of a professional voice talent guiding, selling, canvassing, confirming or reminding us of something that the source of that message deems is of the utmost importance.
Please Hang Up and Try Your Call Again, This is a Recording
Now, I’ve been writing with the assumption that the messaging you’ve heard has been recorded by professional voice talents, but we know that isn’t necessarily the case.
There are bad voice overs out there, no doubt, but I can guarantee you won’t find them here!
Some voices on the phone make you want to hang up, especially if they are poorly recorded or lack-lustre performances by amateur voice talent. I don’t blame you! I’ve heard my share of Sally from accounting narrating the company voicemail and I’m sure you’ve heard unfavorable recordings, too.
Rest assured, if you’re at this site and need to hire a professional voice talent to record for you, you’ve hit the jackpot and will find professionalism in spades as well as get an awesome recording with a voice that’s perfectly suited to your job.
